Through humor, adversity and strength, Spaz himself has overcome many
obstacles in his life that he shares with those he encounters. This
message, along with a positive, alcohol-free, drug-free and
tobacco-free lifestyle is what he has promoted over the past 20 years.
As a child, Spaz himself was afflicted with dyslexia, a neurologically
based disorder that interferes with the acquisition and processing of
language.
Varying in degrees of severity, dyslexia is manifested by difficulties
in receptive and expressive language, including phonological
processing, in reading, writing, spelling and handwriting. Along with
being dyslexic, Spaz struggled with having “Attention Deficit Hyper
Active Disorder (A.D.H.D.).Yet, Spaz did not let this hinder him at a
young age. Instead, he took things in stride and overcame this
difficulty by turning towards his love for music.
It was in his youth that he began to hone his skills as a re-mixer/DJ
and MC. And the rest, as they say, is history.
Kutmaster Spaz is now a nationally recognized re-mixer/DJ by the music
industry. His cutting edge mixing skills, showmanship and keen sense of
music programming has lead to many opportunities including a position
as a Club Chart Reporter for Billboard Magazine. A title only given to
150 top DJ’s in the U.S.
He was the first mixer in Hawaii to receive an award labeled "Mixer of
the Week" by Hitmakers magazine, a national industry magazine, for his
work promoting new urban and dance music to Hawaii.
Spaz has also graced the covers of such magazines as "MidWeek,"
"Honolulu Weekly", G MAG, Pau Hana Weekly and "Elan` - Hawaii Style
Mag". He has also appeared in national and international magazines
including the Source, Street Beat, Industry Insider, Adrenalin (UK) and
Low Rider making Spaz one of the most well known DJ entertainers in
Hawaii today.
Spaz is one of Hawaii's premier re-mix disc jockeys who has been
practicing his craft for the past 25 years. He has been pleasing
crowds at clubs around the state for years and continues to delight
crowds in the thousands with his unique music blends and emcee
showmanship.
He spends countless hours in visiting different schools and communities
to educate students about career opportunities, peer pressure and the
growing problems of drug use.

Spaz was responsible for setting a World record for 48 hours of non-stop mobile mixing while raising almost two tons of canned food items for the Hawaii Food Bank in April of 2001. As part of the 48-hour tour, Spaz raised 5,160 pounds of food for the Hawaii Food Bank a feat accomplished by one man's vision of helping to lessen the hunger for Hawaii's people.
In the past Spaz has also worked diligently on behalf of the American Lung Association of Hawaii as a spokesperson with the Music with a Message Tours providing teens with a positive, tobacco-free message, he was also the key spokesperson for HMSA (a Blue Shield Organization) Go Live Healthy Program geared to young adults. Spaz is also the founder and creator of the Lunch Mix Program. A program set to motivate teens to make the right choices.
He has also worked to educate youth on teen dating violence by partnering with the Domestic Violence Clearing House through the partnership of a mother-daughter luncheon and a men's march in October 2001. |
